Marcus Rashford has ‘chance’ of Man United return under Michael Carrick: ‘They’re desperate to find a solution’
Marcus Rashford could be swayed to stay at Manchester United next season if the club appoint Michael Carrick as their next permanent manager.
That is the view of former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who states that Rashford is currently in a “very difficult position” heading into the summer transfer window.
Rashford has spent the campaign on loan at Barcelona, but the Spanish side’s financial problems may mean they can not afford to sign the forward on a permanent deal.
A second season-long loan to Barcelona has not been ruled out, with the 28-year-old not planning on returning to Man United after previously being frozen out under Ruben Amorim.
Man United are set to be active this summer in strengthening their squad as they are set to return to the Champions League next season for the first time since the 2023-24 campaign.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Rashford could integrate back into the Man United team under Carrick thanks to their previous relationship as teammates.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that the Red Devils want a solution to be found for Rashford this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “From what I understand, he hasn’t exactly overwhelmed everybody at Barcelona.
“He’s done ok, but he hasn’t really been the outstanding superstar that he was once thought of. And for United, they’re desperate to find a solution because I think readjusting him in, while it’d be easier with Carrick, it still would be harder for him to come back now and be part of United.
“But, stranger things have happened, and with Michael Carrick, there’s a much better chance of that happening because they played together. So there’s a chance there of something going on, and it would make integration slightly easier, but still it’s a very difficult position for all parties involved.”
Man United stars future in doubt
One area where Man United will be looking to bolster their ranks next season is in the forward areas, with concerns emerging around Bryan Mbeumo.
Former chief scout at Old Trafford, Mick Brown, told Football Insider that Mbeumo’s recent displays at Man United have raised questions over his future in the team.
The 26-year-old has not scored since a 2-0 win over Tottenham in February, and he faces competition for his place in the team from Benjamin Sesko and Amad Diallo.
The signing of Sesko last summer is one that has yet to fully pay off for the Red Devils, and so extra firepower up-front could benefit the side next season.
