Mark Lawrenson predicts Everton v Chelsea, Tottenham fans will be intrigued

By Amir Mir

Mark Lawrenson has backed Premier League leaders Chelsea to beat Everton 2-0 in their crucial clash on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham fans will be intrigued by Lawrenson’s prediction because it means by the time they play Arsenal on the same day, Chelsea will be seven points ahead of their rivals in the table.

Furthermore, Lawrenson also believes that Spurs will follow up that result by picking up only a point against their north London neighbours.

As a result, Lawrenson feels that the Blues will have a six point lead on second-placed Spurs by the time the weekend matches are concluded.

“Everton are on a phenomenal run of form at Goodison Park, where they have won their past eight league games and scored 29 goals,” Lawrenson told BBC Sports.

“But if anyone is going to stop them, it is the league leaders.

“Chelsea are within touching distance of the title now, and I think they will go there and do a job, and expose any weakness or tiredness that Everton have.”

Despite being top of the table, it will be a tough match for Chelsea against an Everton team that has only been beaten once on home soil this term.

Only their Merseyside rivals, Liverpool have picked up all three points at Goodison Park and that was down to Sadio Mane’s injury-time winner.

Since then, Ronald Koeman’s team have been free-scoring at home as they have been led by striker Romelu Lukaku and playmaker Ross Barkley.

The attacking duo will be looking to combine well at the weekend as they have the chance to dent their opponents chances of being crowned champions.

More worryingly for Chelsea is that they have not kept a clean sheet in the league since their 4-0 win against Hull in January.

In other Everton news, Paul Merson made this bold claim about Tottenham when predicting Chelsea’s clash against the Toffees.
