Danny Mills claims that Tottenham’s clash against Leicester City was “massive” for the Lilywhites and that defeat leaves it as a very disappointing start to the season.
The former Manchester City and England full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists that something is not right for Mauricio Pochettino’s men after seeing themselves succumb to a 2-1 defeat at the King Power Stadium.
Harry Kane had given Spurs the lead against the Foxes but Ricardo Pereira and James Maddison turned the game on its head to seal victory and leapfrog Spurs in the Premier League table.
Mills says that things are not okay at Tottenham right now, having seen a 2-0 lead slip to a 2-2 draw against Olympiacos in midweek, and that their loss in Leicester cements it as a bad beginning to the 2019/20 campaign.
Mills told Football Insider: “Something isn’t quite right. (It was a) big game for Tottenham today, massive game in fact.
“Suddenly it’s a very disappointing start to the season. They had a lot to play for at Leicester. He left Eriksen on the bench today, that’s a brave call, Ndombele came in – he wasn’t great either (v Olympiacos).
Saturday’s games was the second defeat of the season for Pochettino and his side, having suffered a shock 1-0 loss at home to top-flight strugglers Newcastle United earlier in the campaign.
They will be hoping to bounce back in midweek with a trip to Colchester United in the League Cup, before returning to league action against Southampton next weekend.
In other Tottenham news, Darren Bent has torn into Mauricio Pochettino for one team selection in their defeat to the Foxes.
