Gabby Agbonlahor has tipped Mathew Ryan to snub a "dream move" to Arsenal and sign for Celtic instead.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed the promise of the number one jersey at Celtic could see him snub a move to Arsenal.

This site revealed on April 20 that Brighton and Arsenal had held discussions over a permanent deal with a fee of between £3-5million being discussed.

He was signed as cover for Bernd Leno but ended the season with three Premier League appearances for Mikel Arteta's side.

However, the appointment of Ange Postecoglou has provided a fresh twist as the two worked together with the Australia national team.

Asked whether the promise of regular football could see Celtic winning the race for Ryan's signature, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I think he’ll want to be number one.

“He was number one for a long period at Brighton.

“It would’ve been a dream move, a move to Arsenal and just to get any minutes there.

“But I think he’d rather be number one at Celtic than number two at Arsenal.

“I see him going there to Celtic if they can get the right package together.”

Celtic are in desperate need of a stable number one after using three goalkeepers last season.

Summer signing Vasilis Barkas failed to fill the void left by fans favourite Fraser Forster.
