Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty will be the first players Tottenham will try to sell this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and England striker delivered his verdict after the pair were left out of Jose Mourinho's matchday squad against Villa.

Japhet Tanganga, a centre-back by trade, was handed just his third Premier League start of the season as Spurs ran out 2-0 winners at Villa Park.

Aurier's absence was explained by illness but Football Insider revealed at the beginning of the month the club plan to move him on as Mourinho's coaching staff see him as "uncoachable".

Doherty, a 2020 signing from Wolves, was dropped entirely after his torrid display in last week's 2-1 loss to Arsenal.

Asked if Mourinho was sending a message to the pair with his team selection against Villa, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “1000 per cent.

“Jose Mourinho picked a side against Aston Villa that he knew he’d get 100 per cent from and players that he can trust.

“The likes of Aurier and Doherty, he didn’t play them because he can’t trust them. He’ll definitely want to get rid of them and they’ll be the first two he tries to sell.

“He’ll be looking to bring in a new right-back, 100 per cent.”

Tottenham brought in Doherty last summer as academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters joined Southampton.

The Republic of Ireland international has shared the role with Aurier this season but has not started more than three consecutive league games.
