Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard goes into the club's Europa League programme knowing the competition represents his best chance of making elite clubs sit up and take notice of his talents, Football Insider understands.

The forward, 21, is emerging as the Hoops' prize asset after starting the season on fire for club and country with a series of eyecatching goals.

A French source has told Football Insider that Edouard's camp, led by his agent, have made it clear to him that he can attract a European big hitter if he shines on Thursday nights this season.

This comes after Football Insider revealed that Lyon's recruitment team are planning regular transfer missions to keep checks on Edouard as they look to the possibility of luring him back to France.

Edouard has had a blistering start to the season with six goals and five assists from 12 Celtic matches, and he highlighted his talents to a wider audience when scoring four times in his first two games for the French Under-21s last week.

The Frenchman's predecessor Moussa Dembele secured a £19million move to Lyon after producing matchwinning performances in Champions League and Old Firm matches.

Edouard will not have the stage of Europe's elite competition this season, but the Europa League offers a platform to demonstrate his development since signing in the summer of 2017 on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

That deal was made permanent last year for a club-record fee of £9million and the striker has established himself as the first choice striker in Neil Lennon's side.
