Newcastle United are set to announce Eddie Howe as the new manager today after agreeing terms, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

This site revealed at Wednesday lunchtime (3 November) that the 43-year-old was in advanced talks to take over after negotiations with Unai Emery collapsed.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Howe has reached a full agreement with the club to become Steve Bruce's permanent successor.

He could now take charge of tomorrow's Premier League clash against Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

The original plan had been for Graeme Jones to oversee his third game in interim charge.

Howe is happy to work alongside Jones, the assistant manager to Bruce who has stepped in as caretaker boss for the last two matches.

Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser, who were all managed by Howe at Bournemouth, have given ringing endorsements of the manager’s credentials to the Amanda Staveley-led board.

Further talks took place with Howe last night over taking over at Newcastle, and all parties are confident an agreement is now in place.

Howe, 43, was last in management at Bournemouth in August 2020, who he left following the club's relegation from the top flight.

He came close to landing the Celtic job last summer but in a statement, the club confirmed he would not be joining for reasons "outwith both his and Celtic’s control".

Newcastle remain winless from 10 Premier League matches this season and travel to Brighton on Saturday evening for a 5.30pm kick-off.

As it stands, they are six points adrift of safety with 28 games still to play.
