Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter with relish after Birmingham announced they are not looking to replace Gianfranco Zola.

The Italian manager has overseen the Blues slipping down the Championship table and the club have been forced to rubbish media reports surrounding his future in a statement on their official website.

Villa and Birmingham share a great rivalry in England's second-city and played a league game against each other for the first time since 2011 following Villa's relegation from the Premier League.

They drew 1-1 in October and meet once more at Villa Park on April 23.

Villa supporters gave a brilliant reaction to the statement in which they've urged the club not to sack him before the next derby match - with one saying it's like Christmas has come early.

The ex-West Ham boss has won just two of his 21 games in charge since he took over from Gary Rowett.

Now at Derby, Rowett was sacked in December while the club were in seventh place.

Here is a selection of tweets from Villa fans about Zola's future:

Birmingham still have an outside chance of being relegated to the third-tier of English football.

They are six points clear of the relegation zone but they are plummeting down the table at an alarming rate after failing to secure a win since February.

They're currently 18th in the table with five games to play.
