Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg join Liverpool in Jurgen Klopp race

The two German clubs are considering whether to rival Liverpool and Manchester City in the race to land one of Europe's most in-demand managers this summer. As revealed by

the Merseysiders have asked to be kept informed of Klopp’s situation

amid growing doubts over the future of Brendan Rodgers. Liverpool

will review Rodgers’ position at the end of the season

as part of a thorough assessment of all areas of the club, including the first-team squad, the coaching staff and the much-debated transfer committee. Third parties representing Liverpool have already been in contact with representatives of Klopp, who confirmed last month that he would leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season. The Merseysiders are among a cluster of clubs interested in holding talks with Klopp,

who has also attracted the attention of Man City

, Bayern and Wolfsburg.

It is understood that Wolfsburg, who are second in the Bundesliga, have already made an offer to Klopp while Bayern are also keeping a close eye on the 47-year-old. Publicly, the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions are confident Pep Guardiola will see out the final year of his contract but, privately, there is an acceptance the Spaniard could leave at the end of the season. He is likely to be targeted by City, who will set their sights on the cream of the world's managerial talents if, as expected, they dismiss Manuel Pellegrini at the end of an underwhelming campaign for the club.

At Anfield, the spotlight has fallen on manager Rodgers in the wake of a season that will end trophy-less and most likely without the team achieving their minimum objective of a top-four Premier League finish.

American owners Fenway Sports Group will assess Rodgers’ performance later this month and could even take the step of sacking the Northern Irishman after three years at the helm.

It was reported in the wake of the club’s FA Cup exit that Rodgers’ position was secure but Football Insider understands that no decision has yet been made by the owners. Boston-based FSG will consider whether the current manager has made the most of the squad at his disposal this season and will take into account key factors such as the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and the injuries that have robbed Rodgers of Daniel Sturridge for much of the campaign. The owners could also make some changes in how Liverpool recruit players this summer. Even if Rodgers gets the opportunity to continue at Anfield for a fourth season, one possibility is that the six-man transfer committee could be revamped or FSG might even appoint a director of football, something Rodgers has opposed in the past.
