Former Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer has been installed as favourite to be named as the next Rangers boss, according to the latest bookmakers' odds.

BetVictor have priced de Boer at 2/1 to replace Graeme Murty in the Ibrox hot seat in time for next season while Michael O'Neill (8/1) and Steve Clarke (8/1) are also among the frontrunners.

Murty was put in caretaker charge of Rangers when Pedro Caixinha was sacked in October, but after a failed attempt to lure Derek McInnes to Ibrox, his time at the helm was extended for the rest of the season.

De Boer, 47, has been out of work since he was sacked by Crystal Palace just 10 weeks into his reign after losing his first four Premier League games in charge without scoring a goal.

The former Gers player has also had spells at Ajax, where he won four Eredivisie titles, and Inter Milan.

Football Insider verdict

Just because de Boer is a former Rangers player does not mean that he will be a good appointment. The Light Blues need to get this decision absolutely spot on because it will undo a lot of hard work it has taken to get to this point. Caixinha almost did that earlier this season and Dave King acted at the right time to get rid of him. The hunt to hire McInnes was a farce and hopefully there will be lessons learned from that. Out of the current frontrunners for the job, surely Kilmarnock manager Clarke is the best option.
