Paul Robinson has called Tottenham defender Danny Rose a "breath of fresh air" after the left-back surprisingly revealed his plans to stay at the club until his contract expires.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper says that the 29-year-old was refreshing honest with his statement about his future, suggesting that fans would appreciate his transparency.

Rose revealed to the Evening Standard that he would not be forced out of Tottenham before his contract runs out in 2021, admitting the club had no plans of handing him a new deal.

Robinson says that he admires the Spurs man for informing the fans about his situation and his plans moving forward, saying that it is a rarity for players to be so honest and up front about what is going on off the pitch.

Robinson told Football Insider: "Danny Rose's future has always been up in the air but I suppose it will be a breath of fresh air for Spurs fans for a player to be honest and say what he wants to do and let people know what's going on.

"If a player doesn't want to be at a club, Danny Rose's future has always been in question, there's always been a question mark over it and if that's his decision then fair play to him for being honest and open enough.

"That's the situation, he's told the manager, he's told the fans and if that's genuinely how he feels, it's a breath of fresh air for a player to actually be honest about his contractual situation, his personal situation."

Rose, who like Robinson joined the north London outfit from Leeds United, has 209 appearances under his belt for Tottenham, injury problems meaning he has missed large spells of football at a time.
