Sources: Bristol City open talks to sign Douglas after Leeds green light
Bristol City have opened talks to sign Barry Douglas after Leeds United signalled his departure at the end of this month, Football Insider can reveal.
The left-back, 31, is heading out of Elland Road after it was announced he would not be offered a new contract.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider there is strong interest in Douglas with the race headed by Bristol City.
The Championship club are in the market for a new senior left-back and are set to offer a contract to the Scotland international.
He has also attracted interest from clubs in Turkey and the United States but is keen to remain in England.
Douglas, who turns 32 in September, spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers.
He was a regular starter for Tony Mowbray's team, accumulating 29 starts across 32 appearances in all competitions as they finished 15th in the table.
The chances of a permanent move to Ewood Park have diminished as a result of business done in January.
Rovers signed highly-rated left-back Harry Pickering from Crewe Alexandra in the winter window before loaning him straight back for the rest of the campaign.
