Cahill backed to dazzle for Rangers next season after 'amazing' Nixon update - pundit
Gary Cahill would be a "amazing" signing for Rangers despite his age and high wages, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Spurs and Leeds goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a Gers squad lacking in Champions League experience could benefit greatly from the 35-year-old's leadership.
Cahill is a free agent after his contract expired at Crystal Palace at the end of last month.
According to The Sun's Alan Nixon (17th July), Palace want the centre-half to sign a new deal but on a reduced basic wage - something the player is unwilling to accept.
Rangers are said to be interested in bringing Cahill to Ibrox on a potential £35,000-a-week contract.
When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs if Cahill was worth the money, Robinson said: "100 per cent, he would be a very useful signing.
"We have seen how fit and strong he still is even though he's 35. Last year in the Premier League he proved he is still more than capable of playing at the top level. I think think he'd thrive up in Scotland.
"That could be a very shrewd piece of investment from Rangers. Voices and experience are invaluable in the dressing room. With Cahill you get that voice as well as a top-quality player on the field.
"His injury record is also very good so you can almost guarantee that he is going to play.
"That Rangers squad has very little Champions League experience so to have a player like Cahill come in would be amazing.
"I suspect it would be on a two-year deal if he goes there because he is a fit lad."
