Celtic director of football appointment may end in 'disaster' after Sky journalist's update - pundit
Alan Hutton has warned the appointment of a new sporting director could end in "disaster" for Celtic.
The former defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Hoops face a major dilemma trying to bring in a new manager amid a major boardroom shakeup.
As reported by Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Celtic are looking to appoint a sporting director to "modernise" their football department.
Celtic are hunting for a new manager following Neil Lennon's resignation last month.
The Hoops are also plotting a major reshuffle behind the scenes this summer, led by Peter Lawwell's departure.
As revealed by Football Insider, Head of football operations Nicky Hammond is under threat of the sack, as is recruitment chief Gary Penrice.
Asked if a sporting director was crucial in modern-day football, Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "It seems to be going that way.
"It takes a little bit of pressure, I think, off the manager and most teams are doing it.
"It doesn't always work out. I think it has to be a solid relationship between the manager and the sporting director. If they're pushing in different directions it is always going to end in disaster.
"It'll work if they can get somebody there who gets on well with the manager. If they've got the same ideas, same philosophy, same way of moving the team forward.
"It's as simple as that. I understand why they're doing it and it just seems to be the way that football's going at the moment."
