Celtic fans on Twitter have slaughtered Nir Bitton for his performance in the 4-2 win against Hibernian at Hampden Park on Saturday which booked the Bhoys' spot in the Scottish League cup final.

Before kick-off, Hoops fans took to social media to slam Brendan Rodgers' decision to start Bitton, 25, in the centre of defence as Cristian Gamboa was hooked following a poor performance at Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Rodgers has been forced to chop and change his backline this season with a series of injuries, as well having just three first-team centre-backs, with all three of them having spells on the sidelines.

With Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko both ruled out, midfielder Bitton was drafted in to partner Dedryck Boyata, and did little to endear himself to a set of supporters who didn't think he should have been starting anyway.

Most of the fans' issues came up with his part in Hibernian's second goal, where he was caught out by the Hibs attack, one supporter even blasted a "delusional" Rodgers for sticking with him.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Senior player Bitton has been in and out of the Hoops side this season and has constantly been barraged by fans for his performances, even though he is played out of his comfort zone.

Mikael Lustig, Kieran Tierney and young Kristoffer Ajer have all been handed roles in the heart of defence, and it seems that many supporters would rather see one of them play there as oppose to Bitton.
