Celtic are on high alert as Manchester United prepare to offload defender Paddy McNair, according to a report.

The Scottish giants remain in the market for a centre-back even though they completed the signing of Kolo Toure on a free transfer on Sunday.

The Daily Star claim McNair could be sent out on loan in the upcoming season to give him regular first-team action.

It is said in the report that is expected to alert Scottish champions Celtic, managed by McNair’s fellow Northern Irishman Brendan Rodgers, plus a host of Championship clubs.

A decision on McNair will be made by new United boss Jose Mourinho next month.

The centre-half, 21, was in the Northern Ireland squad at Euro 2016 and has demonstrated his versatility by excelling in a defensive midfield role for his country, while he can also play at right-back and centre-back.

Celtic remain without defensive duo Dedryk Boyata and Jozo Simunovic through injury, and defender Efe Ambrose was left out of their 3-0 victory over Lincoln Red Imps in midweek.
