Christiansen makes shock Jansson admission after Leeds win v Ipswich

Thomas Christiansen has shockingly admitted that Pontus Jansson was fit and available for Leeds United's clash with Ipswich on Saturday.

Jansson, 26, is without doubt the best defender for Leeds, but he didn't feature in the 3-2 win at Elland Road this weekend, and many presumed it was because of a knock he picked up in last week's 1-0 loss at Millwall.

However Christiansen has surprisingly made it clear that there was no fitness issue for the towering Swede, suggesting that it was simply a tactical decision to omit him from the squad - a decision that almost backfired.

"He's fit but I decided to leave him out," said the Dane, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay on his personal Twitter account after the game.

Liam Cooper and Conor Shaugnessey lined up in the heart of the Whites defence in Jansson's absence, and as a result they conceded two goals against Ipswich as an own goal proved the difference and ensured them of three points.

The last time Leeds conceded two goals in the Championship came in the opening day of the season when they beat Bolton 3-2 - and on that occasion Jansson wasn't in the squad due to suspension.

Two goals were also conceded in the midweek penalty shoot-out win over Burnley in the League Cup, a game that the ex-Torino defender was also absent from.

Christiansen cannot afford to make mistakes like this any more this season otherwise he will no doubt be risking promotion for his side.
