Daniel Levy's bizarre new Tottenham plan is panned by expert - 'this won't work'

Alan Hutton has urged Daniel Levy against changing the Tottenham transfer strategy.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender insisted the club need to sort out the manager situation before moving forward with any transfer work.

According to the Daily Mail (23 May), Levy has held talks with betting experts over developing a data-driven model for recruitment.

The Spurs chairman has been sceptical of such ideas but after seeing the successes of Brentford and Brighton this season is believed to have had a change of heart in using data to aid recruitment.

But as it stands the Lilywhites are heading into the summer window without a manager to take charge of signings after sacking Antonio Conte in March.

The London club had been closing in on an agreement with Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, the Dutchman has chosen to stay in the Netherlands.

When asked if now is the wrong time for Levy to be changing such a big part of how the club is run, Hutton told Football Insider: "He needs to try something because what he has been doing before is not working.

"I understand the use of stats to look at players but you need to know their personality as well, what they are like as a person. Are they going to fit in? You can't just look at numbers and think a player is going to make you better.

"If he does not suit the style of football that you play or does not get on with his teammates it is not going to be an ideal fit.

"First and foremost they need a manager and I think after that he will assess the squad and have his own opinions but there is a lot of work that needs done."
