Revealed: De Zerbi makes up mind over Tottenham job after new twist - sources
Roberto De Zerbi has told Brighton he will stay with them next season after Tottenham sounded him out, sources have told Football Insider.
Pep Guardiola heads the 43-year-old’s army of new admirers after his transformation of the Seagulls’ playing style since his September arrival following Graham Potter’s move to Chelsea.
Tottenham have showed strong interest in De Zerbi in recent months as a permanent replacement for his fellow Italian Antonio Conte.
They have made another push recently but the former Sassuolo boss has told the Brighton hierarchy he is committed to them for another year.
It is understood that De Zerbi feels the Tottenham job came a year too early for him – he is happy and settled at Brighton and would like to gain more experience before moving to a Champions League calibre club.
In his first taste of English football, the 43-year-old has ensured Europa League qualification by achieving the Seagulls’ highest-ever Premier League finish.

He has also overseen the development of top talents like Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma and Levi Colwill.
Tottenham have now turned their attention to completing a deal for Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.
Negotiations are progressing well over a deal, and Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (23 May) that Spurs are willing to give the Dutchman greater control over transfers and his backroom staff in order to secure an agreement.
Slot has just steered Feyenoord to the Dutch Eredivisie title – ending a three-year run of Ajax triumphs.
Like De Zerbi, the 44-year-old almost exclusively uses a four-man defence – a huge contrast to the favoured five-man system of former boss Conte.
Spurs sit eighth in the Premier League with one game to play – and must better Aston Villa’s result on the final day (28 May) to beat them to Europa Conference League qualification.
