Tottenham defender Matt Doherty was "silly" to dive in on Leeds United's Pablo Hernandez when he was already on a booking, according to Paul Robinson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one urged the 28-year-old to be "more switched on" following his late sending off against Leeds United.

Doherty received a second yellow for a late challenge on Hernandez in added time in what was otherwise a comfortable 3-0 victory for the hosts on Saturday afternoon.

He will now miss the trip to Aston Villa in just over a weeks time but will be available for Spurs' cup ties against Brentford and Marine respectively.

The £15million summer signing from Wolves has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, eight of which have been Premier League starts.

When asked by Football Insider for his view of the sending off, Robinson said:

"It was a silly one for me, in all honesty.

"At that time in the game, with your team 3-0 up, it is a difficult one to take.

"He has got to be more switched on going into the dying embers of the game especially given that they had a three goal lead. You just cannot make tackles likes that when you have already been booked.

"It is a silly one and one and it is one that he will regret."
