Exclusive: Agbonlahor blown away by Liverpool teenager who's 'Like Jota'

Gabriel Agbonlahor has called on Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones to keep scoring goals if he is to have any chance of making the bench when the club's big-name players return from injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker delivered his verdict after the 19-year-old scored his first Champions League goal against Ajax on Tuesday night.

Jones has featured in the Reds' last four games in the Premier League and Champions League with Jurgen Klopp without a number of senior stars.

Midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner and Naby Keita have all missed games in recent weeks.

The Premier League champions have also been without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Xherdan Shaqiri.

It has meant Jones as well as fellow youngsters Neco Williams, Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips have been afforded opportunities.

“They’ve done well, they’ve shown signs,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“It’s hard to be on the same level as those Liverpool players that are world-class.

“Curtis Jones for sure has looked good, he just has to try and take his chance whenever he gets it and keep trying to score and assist.

“When Liverpool get the full squad back they’ve got Thiago, Oxlade-Chamberlain, they’ve got so many players to come back in he might not make the bench then so he’s got to take his chance now like Jota has.

“He’s got to make himself undroppable.”

Jones, who was handed the number 17 shirt for the season, has featured in 12 games across all competitions this term.

In February he became the youngest ever Liverpool captain when he led the club in their FA Cup fifth-round replay against Shrewsbury Town at Anfield.
