Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has told friends he wants to quit and join Crystal Palace this summer, Football Insider understands.

The London club are in the market for a new right-back as they prepare to lose Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who is in advanced talks to join Manchester United in a deal worth £55million.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Clyne, 28, has told his inner circle he is keen to re-join Palace after slipping down the pecking order at Anfield.

The player's agent is set to hold a meeting with Liverpool chiefs about Clyne heading back to the south Londoners, where he made his name before signing for Southampton in 2012.

The defender then moved to Liverpool three years later and was the first choice on the right side of the back line before the stunning emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The youngster's excellence, coupled with the versatility of another outstanding young Englishman, Joe Gomez, means Clyne is effectively third choice right-back.

Liverpool are willing to sell the England international in this window if a club can match their £12million-plus valuation.

Clyne spent the second half of last season on loan at Bournemouth and showed he has fully recovered from the injuries that wiped out the 2017-18 campaign for him.

He was a regular in Eddie Howe's side, making 14 Premier League starts among 15 appearances in all competitions.
