Harrogate Town have agreed to sign Birmingham City defender Mitchell Roberts, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 20-year-old has been given the green light to leave St Andrews on loan this month in search of regular first team football.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the two clubs have reached an agreement over a loan deal for the centre-half.

Roberts is yet to make a senior appearance for Birmingham but has been a regular fixture of the club's Under-23s over the past two seasons.

In the 2019/20 campaign, the left-footed centre-half made 18 league and cup appearances for the Blues youth side.

The young defender is held in high regard by the club, and put pen to paper on a new two-year deal last July.

Birmingham City signed the local lad in 2011 after he was scouted playing Sunday league football, signing his first professional contract eight years later.

In Harrogate Town, Roberts will be joining a club playing their first ever season in the Football League.

Harrogate boss Simon Weaver has already bolstered his squad with the additions of striker Josh March and midfielder William Hondermack this month.

The newly-promoted Yorkshire side currently sit 17th in League Two, five points above the relegation zone after 20 games.
