Jack Colback is ready to fight for his place at Newcastle, amid talk he will not feature in Rafa Benitez's Premier League 25-man squad, Football Insider sources understand.

Colback was left out of Newcastle's squad for their recent friendly win over Verona fuelling speculation over the midfielder's future.

Benitez has reportedly been told he will need to raise funds to bring in his own transfer targets and it has been suggested Colback could be one of the players sacrificed.

However, Football Insider sources understand reports that Colback will not be named in Newcastle's 25-man squad are premature as the squad will not be finalised until the transfer window closes.

Colback, who joined Newcastle in a controversial switch from bitter rivals Sunderland in 2014, still has three years to run on his current deal at St James' Park.

Football Insider sources understand 27-year-old Colback has no plans to leave his boyhood club and is confident of winning his place back in the side.
