Nottingham Forest are ready to listen to offers for midfield duo Ben Watson and Liam Bridcutt in January after Aitor Karanka gave the green light for them to leave, Football Insider sources understands.

Watson, who is Forest's captain, has not featured in the last four Championship games after losing his place in the starting XI.

The former Wigan man has made 13 appearances in all competitions, but only six of those have been starts in the Championship.

Former Leeds midfielder Bridcutt is well down the pecking order in Karanka's plans and a well placed source has told Football Insider Karanka is also willing to let the Scotland international move on.

Bridcutt has made only one brief substitute's performance in the Championship so far this season with another three appearance in the League Cup.

Karanka is planning to make changes to his squad at the City Ground in January and he is looking to make room for any new additions by offloading players who do figure in his long-term plans.

Karanka feels he has enough defensive midfielder at his disposal in his squad and he is open to offers for both Watson and Bridcutt when the transfer window reopens in January so that he can bring in a more attack-minded midfielder.

In other Championship promotion news, Football Insider can reveal the clubs are working on a deal to sign a rising star centre-forward.
