Kalvin Phillips has headed out on holiday with his Leeds United future up in the air, Football Insider understands.

The central midfielder, 23, has held a first round of talks with the club hierarchy over an extension to his contract, which expires in the summer of 2021.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider the Yorkshire giants are keen to keep hold of Phillips and have promised him an improved deal amid interest from Premier League clubs led by Bournemouth.

Phillips has told the club he is eager to stay and commit to spearheading their bid to secure promotion next season following the third place finish of 2018-19.

But there has yet to be a firm offer from Leeds or a resolution to negotiations that threaten to drag on well into the summer.

This could provide encouragement to Phillips' growing army of suitors, with Aston Villa, Southampton and Norwich City also keeping close tabs on his situation.

The United academy product has just completed the best season of his career after being transformed into a midfield anchorman by Marcelo Bielsa.

He has made 141 appearances for Leeds and is rated in the £12-15million bracket as the transfer window gets into full swing.
