Nottingham Forest are plotting a move to sign Dutch defender Caner Cavlan on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.

FC Emmen defender Cavlan is a free agent this summer and a number of clubs across Europe are weighing up moves for the attacking full-back.

Forest boss Martin O'Neill is in the market for a new left-back during this summer's transfer window and a source at the club has told Football Insider that left-back has emerged on his radar.

Greek side Olympiacos, who are owned by Forest chief Evangalos Marinakis, are also in the frame for Cavlan alongside Spanish outfit Real Betis.

Forest used midfielder Ben Osborn as a left wing-back for a lot of games this season, but O'Neill is now looking for a specialist left-back to join his squad.

Cavlan caught the eye for FC Emmen this season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in 34 Eredivisie games to help Emmen secure survival in the Dutch top flight.
