Paul Robinson has hailed Rangers striker Jermain Defoe as an "outstanding footballer" who is "brilliant in the dressing room".

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham goalkeeper and teammate of Defoe shared some insight into the veteran striker.

Defoe, 37, has made a big impact at Ibrox since signing on an 18-month loan from Bournemouth in the January window.

He has maintained his superb career scoring record with 21 goals from 40 matches for Rangers, including 13 in 20 games this season despite playing second fiddle to main man Alfredo Morelos.

"He's been brilliant for everybody," Robinson told Football Insider. "I played with him it's Spurs, he's an outstanding footballer; natural, outstanding ability as an athlete and as a footballer and his goalscoring instincts, he’s proved that wherever he’s gone.

"He's great to have around the dressing room as well, he's great every single day, you don't get a minute with him.

"He's constantly bouncing around with his energy and is brilliant in the dressing room. If there was ever a lull or anything, he is one of these people who never gets down and it's great.

"If he didn't play for three games his personality wouldn't change and he’d come on the next game and score three goals."

Defoe has started just two of Rangers' last eight SPL matches and has not started any of the club's four Europa League games this season.

He has had only two starts in all competitions for the Light Blues since 1 September, with Morelos the first choice spearhead.
