Paul Robinson has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have "dropped the ball" over their handling of Christian Eriksen's current situation.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs stopper suggested that his former side had handled the Dane's ongoing transfer saga poorly from start to finish.

It has been reported that the 27-year-old is on the verge of a move to Inter Milan after Jose Mourinho's side accepted a fee in the region of £16.7 million earlier this week.

More recently, however, the Portuguese manager has hit out at his former club, suggesting that the timing of their move for Eriksen was inappropriate - but Robinson disagrees over where the blame lies.

"I think the whole Christian Eriksen has been handled quite badly from start to finish, to be honest," he told Football Insider.

"To get to this point with Christian Eriksen still hanging around at Spurs, not performing, playing a bit-part, not having a lot of money for him - it’s probably one thing they have dropped the ball on.

"I don’t think Mourinho can criticise the timing because it’s always been coming."

Eriksen has struggled to hold down a regular starting role for Spurs so far this term, making the first XI just 10 times in the Premier League.

And that inconsistent role has seemingly impacted his form too, with just three goals and three assists in 28 appearances in all competitions.
