Peterborough United are leading the race to sign Huddersfield Town winger Reece Brown on loan in January, Football Insider understands.

The promising attacker has struggled for game time since joining the Terriers from Forest Green Rovers in the summer, making just one first-team appearance for the Championship outfit.

A source at Huddersfield has told Football Insider that the 23-year-old could leave the John Smith's Stadium this month and that League One Peterborough are leading the chase for his capture on a temporary basis.

Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley confirmed in December that the versatile winger, who can also play in midfield, is one of a number of players who have been told they can leave the club during the winter window.

Football Insider revealed over the summer that the Terriers beat Leeds United to Brown's capture after watching him score 11 goals and contribute 15 assists for Forest Green last season.

However, he has struggled to make an impact following his move up the divisions, his only appearance coming in a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln City in the League Cup.

With Cowley willing to let Brown leave the club, Peterborough have emerged as the frontrunners to secure his capture, albeit on a temporary basis rather than on a permanent transfer.
