West Bromwich Albion have made an approach to sign prolific Mansfield winger CJ Hamilton, Football Insider sources understands.

Hamilton, 23, has enjoyed an outstanding season to date with Mansfield and is regarded as one of the most exciting attackers in the Football League.

The former Sheffield United man has scored six goals and laid on seven assists so far this season to boost Mansfield's bid for promotion from League Two.

The flying winger's performances have brought him to the attention of several clubs higher up the football pyramid and a well-placed source has told Football Insider that West Brom and Preston have been keeping tabs on his progress this season.

West Brom boss Darren Moore is looking to add to his attacking options in January to give his side's promotion bid a boost and he sees Hamilton's electric pace and trickey as adding another dimension to his side.

Preston are also keen to add to their squad this month and they think Hamilton can make the step to the Championship with ease.

Mansfield are bracing themselves for bids for Hamilton, but they are keen to keep hold of him as they look to try and win promotion this season.
