Tottenham must get a new goalkeeper who can challenge Guglielmo Vicario.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Rangers defender Alan Hutton praised the summer signing for "big" moments this season, but felt a number two is needed to facilitate competition.

Spurs had both Brandon Austin and Fraser Forster on the bench in their recent 2-1 loss to Aston Villa (26 November) while Hugo Lloris, who as revealed by Football Insider (25 November) could have his contract terminated, has been frozen out of the squad.

Hutton backed a move for the Saints' number one but can't see Vicario being displaced.

"You absolutely need to sign someone now to challenge Vicario," he told Football Insider.

"But you see the problems that have happened at Arsenal with people constantly talking about [Aaron Ramsdale and David Raya].

"The pressure is on them to not make mistakes, otherwise they're out!

"It'll be an interesting one. I think Vicario is the number one as he's done really well since he's come in.

Tottenham

"He's made some big saves in big moments and he's really grown within the team.

"Bazunu would be good if he does come in, but he won't be number one. Is he there to push Vicario? Probably."
