Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher tore into Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai live on air after he wasted a golden opportunity to score against Man United.

Arne Slot's side cruised to a 3-0 win away from home thanks to a brace from Luis Diaz and a strike from Mohammed Salah, but the game was not without its controversy.

The Hungarian midfielder had a gilt-edged chance to put his side 4-0 up at Old Trafford with the goal at his mercy, but took extra touches to showboat rather than pulling the trigger, which saw the chance go begging.

The Sky pundits, speaking on Sky Sport's main event channel, labelled Szoboszlai "cocky" and "unprofessional" following the incident, expressing concern that it could have spared a United comeback.

"What is he doing?", Carragher questioned, "Is he trying to be cocky? If United get one back and the crowd gets up, we saw yesterday what happened to Everton.

"That's ridiculous that from Szoboszlai. That's just ridiculous. It's unprofessional."

Neville then followed up: "He's messing about there. He should be absolutely rollocked by the rest of his teammates for that. That's a liberty.

"It's the sort of thing you'd do in training and get a telling-off. Never mind in a match at Old Trafford."

It was ultimately a comfortable victory for Slot's side as he took on United for the first time since taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

However, similarly to Szoboszlai's missed opportunity, the disallowed goal had little bearing on the result other than seeing a narrower margin of victory.

The Hungarian also picked up an assist for the third goal as he rolled Salah through on goal before he curled the ball into the far corner, and turned in an impressive performance throughout.

However, his influence on the game was not enough to please the former United and Liverpool pair on commentary who despaired at his missed opportunity.

The result has seen Slot continue the 100 per cent start to his Premier League career, while United suffered a second consecutive defeat after losing to Brighton last time out.
