Hazard highlights Tottenham man of the match after win v Newcastle

Micky Hazard has hailed Kyle Walker-Peters after his brilliant debut performance helped Tottenham secure a 2-0 win at Newcastle on Sunday.

The 20-year-old had been drafted in to play at right-back in the wake of Kieran Trippier's injury, but looked composed throughout the entire 90 minutes as his side kept an impressive clean sheet at St. James' Park and walked away with all three points.

Former Spurs and Chelsea midfielder Hazard, 57, believes that Walker-Peters was worthy of the man of the match award for his scintillating display at right-back and is now hoping to see him maintain that form in the future.

"MoM [man of the match] Kyle Walker-Peters, amazing what you can achieve playing with a smile on your face, very good debut young man, may there be many more," said Hazard on his personal Twitter account on Sunday afternoon.

Tottenham are the only team in the Premier League to have not signed a player in the summer transfer window, but have seen their squad slightly depleted by the sale of Kyle Walker to title rivals Manchester City in a deal worth over £50million.

Many believe that Trippier has what it takes to step up to the mark in the wake of Walker's exit, but an injury led him to being ruled out of Sunday's clash with Newcastle.

Walker-Peters is a product of Spurs' illustrious academy and it seems that manager Mauricio Pochettino might not have to worry about signing up a new right-back following his display against the Magpies.

Dele Alli and Ben Davies scored in the second-half for Spurs as they opened the new season with victory.
