Hull City have opened talks over a deal to sign Leeds United midfielder Robbie Gotts, Football Insider can reveal.

The Yorkshire-born youngster, 20, has also attracted strong interest from Huddersfield Town and was close to joining them earlier this month.

A Hull source has told Football Insider that the club are trying to beat their county rivals to the capture of Gotts on a season-long loan.

Marcelo Bielsa has given the green light for Gotts to spend the season away from Elland Road in order to get senior match experience.

It had appeared likely that the youngster would link up with the Terriers' new manager Carlos Corberan.

The Spanish coach quit Elland Road earlier in the summer to take over at the John Smith's Stadium following the sacking of Danny Cowley.

But League One outfit Hull are also firmly in contention and may be in a position to offer Gotts more playing time.

The youngster is predominantly a central midfielder but can also play at full-back, including right-back.

He has made three senior appearances for Leeds, two of which came last season and the third in last week's EFL Cup defeat to Hull.

Gotts came off the bench after 78 minutes of normal playing time, when he replaced Mateusz Bogusz as Bielsa fielded a team of fringe and youthful players.

The rising star was also involved in the FA Cup defeat against Arsenal in January as well as the 2-0 Championship defeat to Cardiff City in late June.
