Alan Hutton has revealed he is baffled by Rangers signing Andy King late in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Light Blues full-back explained why he feels the club were already well staffed with central midfielders.

King became the club's 10th signing of the summer window when he joined from Leicester City on a season-long loan.

The Wales international, 30, was in the squad for today's SPL win over Aberdeen at Ibrox but has been a fringe player since his arrival, with all four of his appearances coming as a substitute.

"It's strange because he obviously wants to come and play football and the thing with Rangers is they've got a lot of midfielders," Hutton told Football Insider.

"It's going to be difficult to break into it, we all know he's got quality, he's not played as much as he would have liked and is coming for games.

"I think that's one of the most difficult areas to break into in the Rangers team, they are playing with the three and to have, say, 10 midfielders, it's always going to be difficult."

Ryan Jack, Steven Davis and Greg Stewart were the chosen trio in central midfield today after Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara were omitted from the side that defeated Livingston in midweek.

Rangers also have the versatile duo Scott Arfield and Andy Halliday who can play in the position.
