Hutton slams Hojbjerg after Tottenham star 'gets into argument, then lets fly'
Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should have made an effort to calm Japhet Tanganga down prior to his red card against Crystal Palace.
The former Spurs man, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said Tanganga, 22, would learn from the ignominy of being dismissed.
As shown by Sky Sports, the defender was shown a second yellow card on 58 minutes after a lunging tackle on Palace's Jordan Ayew.
Five minutes earlier, Tanganga received a caution for his part in a scuffle with Eagles winger Wilfried Zaha.
The Englishman's red card compounds the misery of Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
Spurs will be without Eric Dier (injury), Cristian Romero and Davinson Sanchez (quarantine) for the Europa Conference League clash against Rennes on Thursday.
As such, Hutton believes Tanganga will retain his place at the heart of the defence.
“Romero and Sanchez won’t be there – so Nuno is probably forced to include Tanganga despite the red card," he told Football Insider's Ewan Kingsbury.
“I really like him as a player – what happened the other day was just a rush of blood.
“I was actually expecting one of the older heads to go over and calm him down.
“I’ve been there myself, five minutes where the red mist just comes down. He gets into an argument, then he lets fly into a tackle.
“Someone like Hojbjerg just had to put their arm around him, calm him down, and prevent that from happening.
“I do feel for him, but he’ll learn from it. He will go on and have a great career at Tottenham."
Tanganga had started every league game this season, but will now be forced to watch from the sidelines against London rivals Chelsea on Sunday.
