Rangers have opened talks to sign New Zealand international goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic after taking him on trial, Football Insider understands.

Rangers are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements to provide cover and competition for Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham.

Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard and his coaching staff will cast an eye over Marinovic at close quarters at their Auchenhowie training headquarters this week before deciding whether or not to formally offer the New Zealand man a chance to move to Scotland.

The 27-year-old had a trial at Championship side Hull City earlier this month and he is understood to have impressed during his stint with the Tigers.

Marinovic is keen to find himself a new club in the UK and he would favour a move to Rangers ahead of Hull if he can impress Gerrard enough this week to earn a deal at Ibrox this month.

Marinovic, who is the No.1 goalkeeper for New Zealand, is currently a free agent after leaving Vancouver Whitecaps at the end of this season's Major League Soccer campaign.

Marinovic has 24 caps for New Zealand and was part of the side that featured in the Confederations Cup in Russia and the 2018 World Cup intercontinental play-off against Peru.
