Rangers are plotting a move to sign Nottingham Forest forward Karim Ansarifard to bolster their attacking options this summer, Football Insider understands.

Manager Steven Gerrard is in the market for striking reinforcements this summer as doubts surround the long-term future of Alfredo Morelos.

A Rangers source has told Football Insider that Ansarifard has emerged on Gerrard's radar following his fine end to the campaign for Forest and his impressive record in international and European football.

German and Turkish clubs are also keeping tabs on Ansarifard and are weighing up moves for the 29-year-old during this summer's transfer window.

Ansarifard joined Forest last summer on a free transfer from Olympiacos, but he only made the move to the City Ground in November after he suffered delays in obtaining a work permit to play in England.

The Iran international saw his progress at Forest further held up when he was unavailable for a lengthy spell around the turn of the year as he represented his country at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

Ansarifard had to wait until March to make his full debut for Forest, but he ended the season in good form with two goals and two assists in six games for Martin O'Neill's men.

The powerful forward is a prolific goalscorer having scored 17 goals in 26 league appearances for Olympiakos during the 2017/18 season and he has netted 18 goals for Iran.
