Paul Robinson has urged Jamal Lewis to leave Newcastle United amid interest from Turkey.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper "cannot see a way back" for the 24-year-old at St. James' Park.

According to the Express' Ryan Taylor (2 February), Trabzonspor are keen on signing the left-back.

Newcastle

Turkish clubs have until 8 February to conclude transfers as their window is open a week longer than the rest of Europe's.

This site revealed the left-back is set to be left out of Newcastle United’s revised 25-man Premier League squad after five arrivals in January.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Lewis' future, Robinson said:

"Listen, if a manager has told you that you're not wanted and you are not going to be in the squad you have to try to leave.

"I cannot imagine he's on a huge salary. Lewis arrived before the new owners came in. It's not going to be worth sitting around to pick up a salary. It is in his interest to move on and play football.

Newcastle United

"If Howe has told him that he is surplus to requirements then there's not much point in him staying. Newcastle are only going to get bigger and better players over the next few years.

"Players who are not in the plans right now, I cannot see a way back for them. It is for Lewis' own interest that he gets a move."
