Liverpool scouts have been keeping tabs on Alphonso Davies' situation at Bayern Munich ahead of a potential free transfer.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Reds have entered the race alongside a number of European sides.

This comes after, Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Real Madrid are the current favourites to sign the left-back when his deal expires in 2025.

Davies, 24, is out of contract with the German giants at the end of the season and will be free to enter pre-contract talks from January onwards.

Liverpool's interest comes amid questions about Andy Robertson's future in the starting XI as a result of his declining performances so far this season.

Following his red card in the 2-2 draw with Fulham, the Reds are expected to up their interest in a new left-back, but a new signing is more likely to arrive in the summer than in January.

Any deal for Davies, however, would have to work financially for both parties as Madrid are expected to price Liverpool out of a move - although Brown insists they are confident they could reach an agreement.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at United during their most successful period, insisted that Liverpool are hopeful of persuading the left-back to make the move to Anfield.

"From what I hear, Liverpool have had scouts watching him," he told Football Insider.

"They'll know all about him and they'll be making their assessment on how good they think he is.

"Then, the scouts will report back to the chief scout or even to the manager before a final decision is made based on what they've seen.

"The fact he's available on a free is a big draw as well, for a player of his stature, because he's very highly regarded.

"There is lots of interest in him from clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid, so Liverpool may not be able to compete financially with them.

"But if they're looking that closely at him, they must be confident that they can reach an agreement.

"There have been a few questions about Robertson so far this season as well, and a left-back is certainly on their radar, so if they can't get this deal over the line, they'll have to look elsewhere."
