Steven Gerrard is in line for an England coaching role after holding talks with the Football Association over a senior role, according to a role.

The Sun claim that the Liverpool legend is seen as having a bright future with England and will be offered a job with young players as he takes his Uefa badges.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn is said to be ready to ask Gerrard who should be the Three Lions’ next full-time boss after Roy Hodgson quit on Monday in the wake of England's humiliating Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland.

Gerrard, who ended his 17-year spell at Liverpool in May 2015 after one of the greatest careers in the club's history, is under contract to MLS side LA Galaxy until December.

It is said he could be tempted by an offer of a first coaching role as the former England captain has been open about his ambition to move into management when his playing career ends.

He is expected to work with Liverpool’s Under-21s when he returns to England and a coaching role at St George’s Park could be the first step to him being involved with the senior England team in the future.
