Former Tottenham chairman Lord Alan Sugar has admitted he has been left shocked to see Harry Kane on the bench for Easter Sunday's clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Kane, 24, missed the international fixtures over the last two weeks due to an ankle injury amid fears that he may be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

However, as announced by Spurs official Twitter account ahead of kick-off, Mauricio Pochettino has decided to name the England international on the bench for his side's huge London derby clash against the reigning Premier League champions.

Lord Sugar took to his personal Twitter account to admit he was surprised to see Kane on the bench and suggested that Pochettino may be rushing the centre-forward back to action.

"Surprised Harry Kane is on the bench, maybe too early after his ankle injury. Lets hope we don't need him on today," he said.

Football Insider verdict

Pochettino probably will not risk Kane against Chelsea unless he absolutely has to in the final minutes of the game, but this Spurs side should really see of Chelsea. Antonio Conte's men are the worst top six at home in the Premier League while Spurs are the second best on the road. Kane's inclusion on the bench is perhaps more of a morale booster than anything which will lift the fans and even the players to know that they can rely on their star striker if needed. Heung-min Son should be fine up front though as the South Korean has been in deadly form and may be underestimated by Chelsea
