McAvennie excited about imminent arrival of 'huge' Celtic new boy Furuhashi

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie claims Kyogo Furuhashi's imminent arrival at Celtic will be a boost to the whole club.

The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted he will be delighted if the striker ends up being half as good as Japanese fans are hyping him up to be.

On 16th July, Celtic announced the capture of Furuhashi, 26, on a four-year deal.

He has been in quarantine ahead of meeting up with the Hoops squad after travelling from Japan.

He leaves Vissel Kobe mid-way through the J-League season with an impressive tally of 15 goals in 21 games.

McAvennie insists Furuhashi's arrival can't come soon enough with the league season fast approaching.

"The quicker we get him the better," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

"If he's half as good as he's hyped up to be I'll be delighted. They [Kobe fans] seem to love him.

"It's another jersey seller for Celtic, he's huge in Japan.

"The last one was Nakamura but obviously that's not the most important thing.

"It will help but we need performances more than anything else. He's a confident lad and he could be a breath of fresh air.

"We need a bit of that, he looks a classy footballer. There's no doubting his ability.

"I can't wait to see him. We need him now, especially after those recent results."

All told, Furuhashi managed to find the net 49 times in 110 outings for Vissel Kobe.

It is currently unknown when the forward will be able to meet up with his new teammates as Celtic's Premiership season gets underway on Saturday.
