McAvennie slams 'lazy' Edouard and Christie amid Celtic updates

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAVennie claims Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard are not committed to Celtic.

The Parkhead icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists Ange Postecoglou shouldn't be playing the pair.

Both players have been linked with moves away from Celtic this summer but have featured regularly under Postecoglou.

As reported by the Athletic (August 2nd), Christie’s Hoops deal expires in January but there is some faint hope he could still sign an extension.

Celtic have endured a tough start to the season but finally picked up a first win under their new boss through the week.

Neither player started against Jablonec and McAvennie insists this is the right approach from Postecoglou.

"I don't think he [Postecoglou] has a choice, he has to play them most of the time," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Christie is running his contract down so he's not committed, not really. It's lazy stuff.

"Edouard is the same, he's not making those runs, not putting that extra effort in.

"He thinks he's not going to be here and that's a problem. I wouldn't play them. They are damaging the squad.

"It's the same story again, we need more players in, Postecoglou is being forced to play players who aren't committed."

Celtic will take a 4-2 lead into next week's second leg against Jablonec.

Christie came off the bench to score his side's fourth moments after conceding.
