McAvennie tips Christie to quit Celtic after 'Stories' he has heard

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Frank McAvennie has tipped Ryan Christie to try and engineer a Celtic exit this summer.

However, the Parkhead legend, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 25-year-old "will not survive in the Premier League" on the evidence of this season.

Christie has entered the final 16 months of his contract at Celtic, having last renewed terms in November 2018.

The Scotland international's 35 appearances across all competitions this season have yielded five goals and 13 assists.

When asked for his assessment of Christie's future, McAvennie told Football Insider:

"Christie wants to leave if the stories are true and, from what I hear, I believe that they are.

"Listen, if you want a move to the Premier League you have got to perform on the pitch. We all know that he is a talent but he has not been doing it.

"They have been shoehorning him into the team - he is not a right winger. He was doing the dirty work against Aberdeen and that is what he needs to do.

"The way he has been playing he will not survive in the Premier League. I certainly do not think he would survive in the Championship.

"Sometimes you think you are better than what you are. It is a shame because he possesses great talent. The boys let themselves down at the start of the season and clubs will have watched that. It looked like they downed tools. It is a hard one."
