'It was difficult' - Neil Warnock slams Ken Bates ahead of Leeds clash v Cardiff

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock has slammed Ken Bates for being the "wrong chairman" for Leeds United after his previous spell at Elland Road didn't pan out as he would have hoped.

Warnock, 68, sees his current side Cardiff welcome the Whites to South Wales on Tuesday night in a top-of-the-table affair after both clubs enjoyed solid starts to the season.

The outspoken boss spent just over a year in charge at Elland Road between February 2012 and April 2013 before he was eventually sacked with the Yorkshire giants just shy of the relegation zone.

Bates had a bad reputation during his time at Leeds for not investing enough money in the club and also caused controversy when he blasted the fans as "morons" after airing their concerns.

Now, Warnock has recalled his relationship with the ex-chairman ahead of the midweek clash between the two Championship rivals.

“Leeds have done well and it’s great to see because it’s a fabulous club,” he said, as quoted by Wales Online. “I really enjoyed myself there but it was difficult circumstances, it was the wrong place at the wrong time – and the wrong chairman!"

Warnock has made a name for himself for managing an unprecedented number of clubs during his long managerial career which spans all the way back to 1980.

Spells at Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, QPR and of course Leeds and Cardiff have happened in that time, as well as a host of other clubs up and down the English football pyramid.

His Cardiff side can top the Championship table if they manage to pick up a win against Thomas Christiansen's Leeds on Tuesday with both sides currently level on 20 points.
