Prolific forward ruled out of Liverpool showdown against Man City

Sergio Aguero has been ruled out of Manchester City's Champions League showdown against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Manager Pep Guardiola revealed at his pre-match media conference that the prolific striker will miss out due to the knee injury that has sidelined him from the club's last two matches.

Aguero has remained in Manchester and did not make the short journey to City's hotel in Liverpool for the club's biggest match of the season.

As quoted by the City Watch Twitter account covering Guardiola's media exchanges, the manager said Aguero could play some part in the weekend Premier League clash against Manchester United.

What a boost for Liverpool, who have suffered their own injury problems in the build-up to the mouthwatering showdown, with four first teamers already ruled. Aguero is a brilliant striker who is third only to Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane in the race for the Premier League golden boot this season, with 24 league goals and 30 from 37 in all competitions. Gabriel Jesus is hardly a second-rate replacement, with his mobility and work-rate set to provide major headaches from a Joel Matip-less defence, but the Brazilian does not yet have the ice-cool all-round finishing ability of Aguero.
