PSV Eindhoven have set their sights on signing Aston Villa striker Wesley this summer, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

A Dutch source has told Football Insider that PSV have asked for information about Wesley as they investigate the viability of a year-long deal.

The Dutch Eredivisie big guns want to be sure that the striker has fully recovered from the knee injury that has ruined his Villa career.

He made his long-awaited comeback last month 16 months after suffering an ACL injury to his right knee on New Year’s Day 2020.

Villa recognise they have no hope this summer of recouping the-then club record £22million paid to Club Bruges in the summer of 2019.

Wesley needs to prove his fitness and only regular football will do that, something he is unlikely to get at Villa Park.

Wesley scored six goals in 22 appearances before he broke down, but has subsequently seen Ollie Watkins be signed for a club-record fee and make an even bigger impact.

Loaning out Wesley would allow Villa the chance to strengthen their attack in the summer window.

Aston Villa

Proven forwards are top of Smith's target list after the glaring lack of creativity and firepower was underlined during Jack Grealish's lengthy injury absence.

Villa could bring in two wide men as well as an orthodox striker, with former loan star Tammy Abraham a top target.
