Pundit Exclusive: Celtic have the 'Biggest Bargain Ever' after transfer reveal

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Celtic midfielder Tom Rogic is proving to be "the biggest bargain ever", according to Frank McAvennie.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Hoops forward claimed the Australian is a better option than Ryan Christie in the number 10 role.

Rogic has provided all three assists for Celtic's goals in their last two games in the Scottish Cup and Europa League.

Prior to last weekend's game against Aberdeen at Hampden, the 27-year-old had started just once for Neil Lennon's side this season.

Rogic moved to Parkhead from Central Coast Mariners in 2013 for a reported £400,000 fee.

However, former Celtic chief scout John Park told the Scottish Sun that the transfer actually cost roughly £220,000.

And McAvennie believes his recent performances are more than justifying the outlay.

He told Football Insider: “Rogic is the man for the middle of the park. He’s the man that has taken a hold of it.

“If he gets the ball with three men around him, he’ll keep hold of it. He can do that.

“When Ryan Christie is in the middle, he and Callum McGregor tend to go for the same ball.

“To think we only got him for around £250,000, it’s the biggest bargain ever.

“I’m a big fan of Rogic, a massive fan and he did really well on Sunday at Hampden with the massive pitch.

“Considering he’s not played too much I’m delighted with his performance.”

Rogic has scored 36 goals and provided 38 assists in 195 games for the Hoops since his move from Australia.

He has played 47 times for his country, including three games at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
